Pros: The Rio de Janeiro international airport is very difficult to traverse. However, the airport staff was very helpful in directing me several times to the correct location. Cons: United needs a check-in kiosk located between the domestic arrivals section and the international connection hallway just before security. I had to walk to the complete length of the airport and back again, just to check-in. Other airlines, such as Delta, have a kiosk located just before the security entrance. The cabin temperature was absolutely freezing during the flight, and I am usually hot. Pros: My flight from STX was delayed some 30 minutes. That made a dent in the 57 minutes I had to catch my Delta flight. Naturally we landed at gate A2 and Delta was boarding at Terminal 2 gate B9. Thank goodness I had a carryon with wheels. I was out of breath when I got to Delta and the last passengers were boarding. I started panicking and interrupted the ground steward who asked me to wait with a smile. So when I told them I was standby they waved me on after showing my passport. I was pleasantly surprised to get a seat in first class. I was so thankful. Good things come to those who wait! Cons: The flight delay estimates were off and it was pushed back throughout the day. Staff members were going out of their way to ignore me when I was trying to switch flights and seemed to not be interested in helping.
